Question:We are investigating starting a smoothie business as part of the Bristol Renaissance Faire. We are in need of finding out what ordinances for equipment and building space would apply. Are you the proper authority to cover this? If so, how can we obtain this information?

Answer:The Town is just one of the agencies that you would be dealing with. We deal with the fire/life-safety issues and the actual building construction. We are one of the last stops in the permitting process, however, you will see us in the field during inspections the most. We currently follow the State of Wisconsin Enrolled Commercial Building Code. The other agencies that need to be involved are: Kenosha County Planning & Zoning (262) 857-1895 and the Division of Health (262) 605-6700.
Question:Are electrical outlets within four feet of a water source required to have GFCI outlets?

Answer:GFCI outlets are required in the following locations: bathrooms, garages, outdoors, crawl spaces, unfinished basements, and kitchens within 6 feet of wet bar sinks. These rules are applicable to dwelling units. Other than dwelling units GFCIs are required in bathrooms, rooftops, commercial garages, and repair areas. If you need further clarification please call the Building Inspector at 262-857-2368. He is in the office Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Question:We are looking for the local ordinances for exterior commercial lighting. Would you have anything available??

Answer:Chapter 12 of the Kenosha County Zoning Ordinance 12.13.3(m) states that exterior lighting provided in any parking area shall be shielded or directed in such a manner so as to prevent light from shining directly into abutting properties. Chapter Comm 63 of Wisconsin Administrative Code, specifically parts 63.41, 63.42 & 63.43, cover exterior lighting.
